This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. In addition, ARTs are required to maintain their active membership in the AF Reserve unit where assigned. ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month.

Duties
The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) to perform a variety of duties in support of airdrop training to include the operation of one or more types of gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles; the operation of forklift and K-loaders; the rigging of loads and packing of cargo parachutes.
Duties:
Drives tractor-trailers and/or other vehicles typically having a GVW of more than 32,000 pounds.
Operates one or more electric, LPG, or diesel powered forklift trucks to facilitate loading and unloading duties.
Performs operator maintenance, such as checking fluid levels and air pressure in tires, cleaning and washing of vehicles, and performing inspection checklists to ensure safe and proper operation.
Packs and maintains cargo and extraction parachutes.
Maintains records and documents actions, such as operator inspection checklists/forms and accident/incident reports.
Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5700 Transportation/Mobile Equipment Operation Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is the ability to perform the work of a Motor Vehicle Operator (Forklift Operator) with little to no supervision.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of and skill in operating one or more gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles with a GVW of over 32,000 pounds such as truck tractors with semi or full trailers, heavy load in-line trucks, or interstate motor coaches.
2. Knowledge of cargo handling and hauling and techniques for safeguarding and protecting cargo. Reliability and dependability to meet pickup and delivery deadlines and schedules.
3. Knowledge of and skill in rigging cargo loads for use in airdrop training exercises. Knowledge, skill, and ability of U.S. Army Quartermaster Parachute Rigger and Joint Airdrop Inspector.
4. Knowledge of and skill in operating one or more electric, LPG, or diesel-powered forklifts and other material handling equipment.
5. Ability to judge road/traffic conditions and read maps to determine the shortest and safest route. Knowledge of traffic and safety regulations, practices, and procedures pertaining to motor vehicle and forklift operation.
6. Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. related to motor vehicle, forklift, and power take-off unit operation and preventive maintenance.
Other significant facts:
This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. The incumbent's primary responsibilities are ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities.
May be required to fly in commercial and military aircraft to perform temporary/permanent duty assignments
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
This is a drug testing designated position; the incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position. Must have the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays; shift work may be required; and may on an irregular basis operate passenger vehicles as required
Physical Effort:
Physical effort is moderate to heavy. Work requires reaching, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Associated duties require stooping, bending, and climbing. Lifts and carries objects weighing up to 40 pounds and heavier objects with assistance.
Working Conditions:
Drivers work mostly outside and operate vehicles in all kinds of traffic and weather on public roads (or equivalent), and are exposed to the danger of serious accidents. Drivers are exposed to dirt, fumes, and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents when loading and unloading the vehicle. They drive in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated road and interchange systems.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
