About the Position: This is a Public Affairs Specialist GS-1035-12 position with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Southwestern Division, Fort Worth District, Public Affairs Office located in Fort Worth, TX.
Duties
Establishes, and maintains effective and cooperative relationships with print and electronic news media and with public affairs personnel of specialized groups, to ensure broad coverage and public awareness of District programs.
Sets up news conferences, develops public affairs guidance and responds to media queries on a routine basis.
Plans, coordinates and evaluates the dissemination of information relating to the District's programs, objectives and functions through the news media.
Determines ways to work more closely with media and special interest groups in communicating with audiences interested in or affected by programs.
Serves as a principal assistant to the Chief of the Public Affairs Office.
Plans and accomplishes coordination with SWD, other USACE Divisions and Districts, Army Commands and other Federal agencies concerning the office work program functions, and activities.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain Operations Security Level II certification.
- Must possess Defense Information School’s Public Affairs Qualification.

Specialized Experience:
One year of specialized experience which includes which includes 2 out of 3 of the following: 1) Developing proactive strategies to lessen or eliminate adverse publicity; OR 2) Monitoring organizational activities for items of interest to the media; OR 3) Consulting on controversial matters to prevent conflict with management objectives. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
