The position is remotely located in the Office of Research and Development (ORD), Veteran Health Administration (VHA), VA Central Office (VACO).
The Regulatory Specialist (Biospecimens) will be responsible for serving as the ORD regulatory expert and consultant on policies, procedures, guidance, and FAQs related to biospecimens in VA conducted research studies.
Duties

Duties include but may not be limited to:
Performs critical analyses on technological and scientific developments in the biorepository field.
Participates in field visits to audit biospecimen facilities/collections and review local policies in anticipation of federal oversight visits.
Reviews audit reports from the Office of Research Oversight and other federal agencies for potential correctable issues related to biospecimen collection and maintenance.
Locates, develops and maintains a list of all biobanks and biospecimen collections of interest.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm
Telework: Available (applicant is required on site 50% of work schedule per pay period)
Qualifications
BASIC REQUIREMENT: A Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
AND
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in Federal Service that includes performing the following duties: Compiles department level policies, guidance documents, FAQs related to biospecimens.; Serves as an expert consultant to the biorepository programs.; Oversees all aspects of the program, including committing resources, gaining compliance with policies and procedures, and resolving complex issues.; Develops tools and provides education to the department program office and local research programs related to biospecimen issues.

A structured interview will require a writing sample in response to questions related to biorepository policy will be required.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary, including typical office work. The work does include travel to biospecimen handing facilities, meetings, and conferences.
