This position is located at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System within the Facilities Management service line. The work of this position involves the efficient operation and timely completion of equipment and facility maintenance repairs, preventive maintenance, inspections, station level projects and development and project management of contracted construction projects. Work also includes all grounds maintenance, to include lawns, landscaping, parking lots, roads and sidewalks.
Duties
Major duties include but are not limited to:
Operates one or more motor vehicles including pickup trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks, carryalls, sedans and crew cab pickup trucks to pickup supplies, materials, or equipment and tools
Moves furniture and equipment within the Medical Center, which frequently requires trips off-campus to other storage and operations facilities throughout the Minneapolis metropolitan area
Performs labor intensive work which requires some degree of manual skill, called upon by prior work experience or training
Operates heavy, powered and non-powered tools in a safe and appropriate manner based upon task or project needs
Conducts vehicle and equipment safety checklist to assure proper/peak-performance level before operation
Moves furniture, files, supplies and materials to proper location by use of pallet-jack, hand truck, cart or manually
Snow shovels walks, steps, roadways and other areas as assigned
Trims trees, bushes, and shrubs to cultivate, shape and make aesthetically pleasing
Loads and unloads trucks
Mows lawns, mulches or collects clippings
Edges in and around sidewalks and curbs, using power edging equipment or hand tools
Rakes leaves, dirt and debris
Repairs and cleans concrete, asphalt, roadways and walks
Assembles and dismantles stage, decorations, and other such items where designated
Delivers laundry from user to laundry services and returns
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (work hours may be further discussed during the interview)

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT #1: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. To be found at least minimally qualified for the position of Laborer (Motor Vehicle Operator) WG-3502-04 level, your application and supporting documents must demonstrate the critical knowledge, skills, and abilities that are essential for satisfactory job performance. For this position, you must have the ability to do the work without more than normal supervision in performing the full range of duties. Examples of qualifying related experience include but are not limited to: operates one or more different types of motor vehicles to pickup various types of supplies and equipment; performs grounds maintenance, to include mowing lawns, trimming trees, landscaping, shoveling snow, clearing parking lots, roads and sidewalks; utilizes various lawn care equipment and performs preventative maintenance inspections and repairs on it; and reads and understands written and verbal instructions or directions.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT #2: You must possess a valid state driver's license to operate government vehicles to perform the duties of the position.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: Exerts heavy physical effort in doing such tasks as: lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, and moving objects weighing over 50 pounds. Movement of items over 50 pounds requires the use of the "buddy system," and second or third person will be needed and used. Running powered equipment on gradients, in leveled or uneven surfaces.
Working Conditions: Works outside in all kinds of weather and environmental conditions; snow, ice, rain, mud, hot and cold temperatures. Works inside in dusty, drafty, and damp areas. Operates equipment that generates noise and fumes.
