About the Position: This position is located at Fort Novosel, Alabama, home of the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence. Fort Novosel is located in the "Wiregrass" area in Southeast Alabama, surrounded by Enterprise, Ozark and Daleville. The geography and climate are ideal for year round military training.
Duties
Serves as a Shift Leader who is an assistant to the Guard Shift Supervisor.
Makes daily assignments to ensure that guard coverage is provided to assigned patrol areas.
Instructs employees in specific tasks and job techniques and provides on-the-job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures.
Serves as the initial point of contact for the installation’s visitors which may include foreign nationals, government agents, elective officials, media and Very Important Persons (VIP).
Operates and perform research queries on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) workstation terminal(s) in accordance with (IAW) federal and state laws.
Serves as a member of the installation's overall security response capability during actual or simulated incidents.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination. This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". Incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
- The incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminals.
- In accordance with (IAW) Army Regulation (AR) 190-56, requirements of Individual Reliability Program apply.
- The incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
- The incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
- The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques and must know First Aid. The incumbent may act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
- The incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
- The incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT) as outlined in Army Regulation 190-56 "The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program".
- The incumbent must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform in accordance with Army Regulation 190-56, maintaining a high state of appearance and hygiene.
- The incumbent must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) controlling access of vehicles, visitors, and pedestrians into a facility such as a military installation; 2) using automated systems to query and/or verify suitability for visitor entry into a facility such as a military installation; 3) safeguarding personnel, information, and/or property/critical assets in a federal, state, municipal, local, or private protective organization; and 4) leading projects and/or employees. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
