About the Position: This position is located at Fort Novosel, Alabama, home of the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence. Fort Novosel is located in the "Wiregrass" area in Southeast Alabama, surrounded by Enterprise, Ozark and Daleville. The geography and climate are ideal for year round military training.

Duties

Administer written and practical evaluations. Coordinate with other Training Instructors to integrate joint training and ensure certifications are met. Coordinate First Aid and safety training for basic and refresher training events. Check on availability and condition of needed equipment, devices and aids. Serve as a member of the installation's overall security response capability during actual and simulated incidents. Implement the installation closure plan securing ACPs at heightened FPCONs, emergencies and/or disasters. Regulate pedestrian and vehicular traffic to prevent accidents and to ease congestion and parking problems. Assist Department of the Army Civilian Police, Fire Fighters, local First Responders, EMS, and Military Police as required by rerouting traffic, obtaining facts, and taking statements. Respond to Security Guards' reactions, questions, and difficulties grasping the material. Conduct the 96-hour Department of the Army Security Guard course. Conduct the 40-hour Borrowed Military Manpower (BMM). Prepare Security Guard exercise scenarios, conducts security test exercises, and evaluates individual and team competencies. Prepare lesson plans and testing materials to deliver classroom instruction on security subjects. Assist in the development and revision of the Program of Instruction (POI) for the Access Control Point Operating Instruction by providing definitive technical input for assigned portion. Conduct training for Security Guard personnel for new hires, refresher, specialized, continuing and minimum training. Maintain visitor control roster and badges accountability log, which is subject to quarterly and annual reviews. Prepare identification badges, cards, and passes.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position and is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position is subject to the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment. This act bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • This position is designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other emergency type situations (natural or man-made) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
  • Incumbent will be assessed under the Individual Reliability Program for social adjustment, emotional stability, sound judgment, dependability, flexibility in adjusting to changes, ability to work effectively under pressure or emergency conditions.
  • Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
  • This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
  • Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
  • Incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual Physical Agility Test (PAT). Failure to meet the standards after the second attempt within a ninety-day period will result in separation.
  • Incumbent must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform, maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
