This position is being recruited under 10 USC 1599f into the Cyber Excepted Service and does NOT convey eligibility to be converted to the Competitive Service. It has been identified as a position necessary to carry out and support the mission of the US Cyber Command.
It is in the Technician/Administrative Support Work Category at the Entry/Developmental Work Level within the CES Occupational Structure. It is located in the (ENTERPRISE SERVICES DELIVERY, DISA PC41).
Duties
Specific tasks are assigned to provide experience in practical application of computer engineering theory and basic principles.
Serves as trainee in the Information Technology field performing work that may involve systems and services used in the automated acquisition, storage, manipulation.
Knowledge of the principles, concepts, and methodology of computer systems management.
Assists in troubleshooting accessibility and availability problems and initiates corrective actions.
Recognizing situations which may require referral to others; planning work procedures and; searching for information which may bear on a problem.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Must be enrolled or have been accepted for enrollment and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) at a qualifying educational institution on a full or half time basis.
- This national security position, which may require access to classified information, requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.
- Educational enrollment MUST be on a half-time or full-time basis. Half-time basis is defined by the academic institution that the student is enrolled or accepted into.
- Official/Unofficial transcripts with the current enrollment course load.
Qualifications
Student Interns qualify based on their educational achievements.
In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements described below.
Basic Requirements:
For the GG-04 grade level: Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or associate's degree.
For the GG-05 grade level: Completion of all requirements for a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree.
For the GG-07 grade level: Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate level education or eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement Provision after completing a bachelor's degree.
For the GG-09 grade level: Two full years of progressively higher-level education, or master's or equivalent graduate degree such as LL.B or J.D.
All qualifications must be met within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
PROGRAM COMPLETION AND CONVERSION ELIGIBILITY: Upon successful completion of their academic program and the Internship program, interns may be converted to a term (GG) position in the Excepted Service consistent with agency needs, academic achievement, and demonstrated potential. Conversion potential for this opportunity is a GG-0899-04/05/07/09 up to the full performance level of GG 13. However, future budgetary events, hiring restrictions, conversion caps, or other events may preclude the conversion or conversion to a position with the full potential performance level. Individuals converted to a position in the competitive service may be subjected to participation in an agency formal development program.

Selected applicants must maintain good academic standing, remain students as long as they are employed under the student program, perform their jobs successfully, and meet any other component-specific requirements outline in their Participant Agreements.
At management discretion this position maybe converted to permanent position within 120 days of successful degree completion. Conversion is not mandatory or guaranteed for participants and is dependent (among other things) on the employee's successful completion of the Agency student-program requirements.
