The position of the Medical Administrative Specialist is located within the office of the ACOS for Mental Health & Behavioral Health Science Service (MH&BHS), at the VA Caribbean Healthcare System (VACHS). You will serve mainly as the coordinator for all Mental Health & Behavioral Health Science Services initiatives and programs under the ACOS for MH&BHS.
Duties
Major Duties include, but are not limited to:
Serves as the coordinator for the administrative implementation, tracking, monitoring, and overall oversight of the Behavioral Health initiatives and programs.
Coordinates and attends meetings.
Develop strategies and procedures to comply with all directives and mandates.
Serves as Point of Contact for action items.
Incumbent generates reports.
Studies program specific data, to evaluate efforts, note discrepancies, and to be able to plan actions to reach the established goals.
Coordinates and facilitates all activities related to quality measures and system redesign projects.
Experience in Systems Redesign.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/04/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
Preferred Experience: Coordination of the administrative implementation, tracking, monitoring, and overall oversight of initiatives and programs. Utilization of VHA business data sources used for analysis as it relates to their service to include, but not limited to; VSSC, Decision Support System (DSS), VISN 8 Data Report Center (DRC), Corporate Data Warehouse (CDW) and the Allocation Resource Center (ARC). Tracks deficiencies noted or reported to assure timely correction of it. Analysis: comprehend, interrelate, evaluate facts, distinguish between causes and effects, understand fundamental problems, and be able to develop solutions logically and systematically. Ensures accuracy of patient care data; prepares and monitors evaluation data, analyzes data, identifies discrepancies, makes corrections, and recommends courses of action to assure accuracy and timeliness.

Specialized experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-07 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Serves as the coordinator for the administrative implementation, tracking, monitoring, and overall oversight of the Mental Health & Behavioral Health Science initiatives and programs; Assists in all administrative duties; Coordinates & attends meetings; Develops strategies & procedures to comply with all directives; Responsible for interpreting, tracking, validating, and submitting personnel action items; Studies program specific data & generates reports. OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree orLL.B. or J.D., if related. Physical Requirements: The work is both sedentary and, at times, physically challenging. Some physical effort; such as standing, walking, bending, or sitting may be required.
