Duties
Joining the Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, will allow you to use your expertise in administration to lead the development and implementation of key support processes for the organization.

In this Deputy Assistant Director, Field Operations (Mission Support) position, you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals by participating with Office of Field Operations officials in the review and appraisal of major policy issues and in the establishment of goals and objectives. Typical work assignments include:
Advising the ADFO (Assistant Director, Field Operations), and other managers on key support processes and ensuring the Assistant Director, Field Operations (ADFO) is provided with authoritative and current information for use in making policy decisions affecting the field office.
Developing and implementing short- and long-term plans to improve the delivery of services, to add new services, delete services not needed, and to upgrade facilities to assure the best possible service is provided.
Providing the ADFO with feedback on how well national financial processes serve the Director, other field managers, the public and other customers.
Reviewing the results of the oversight activities and determining the significance and severity of problems and issues.
Leading the development and implementation of effective and responsive human resources management, training, labor and employee relations.
Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
Providing advice, assistance, and guidance to supervisors, managers, and employees on complex and sensitive issues.
Providing complex administrative services such as budget, logistics, procurement, and quality assurance programs.
Providing a full range of supervisory functions for a staff that provides a diverse range of mission support services.
Developing and prescribing procedures and techniques and furnishing policy guidance to subordinates, assigning and explaining work requirements to subordinate staff to achieve efficiency of services rendered while increasing productivity.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
You must:
Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and
Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 06/14/2024.

Residency: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP. Individuals are required to have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates (as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years. If you do not meet the residency requirement and you have been physically located in a foreign location for more than two of the last five years, you may request an exception to determine if you are eligible for a residency waiver by meeting one or more of the following conditions:
Working for the U.S. Government as a federal civilian or as a member of the military

Working as a contractor, intern, consultant or volunteer supporting the U.S. government
Probationary Period: All employees new to the federal government must serve a one year probationary period during the first year of his/her initial permanent federal appointment to determine fitness for continued employment.
