About the Position: This position is under Naval Health Clinic located at Pearl Harbor side of Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam, which is on the Island of Oahu, Hawaii.
A cost of living allowance has been authorized for Hawaii at the rate of 8.90% (subject to change).
Advance in Hire may be authorized. This is available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.
Duties
Perform medical screening and medical surveillance to screen for early diagnosis and treatment of medical issues that may result from potential worksite hazards or exposures.
Recognize hazardous workplace exposures from chemical, physical (radiation, lasers, etc.) and biological agents and initiates treatment and follow-up to identify and prevent occupational illnesses and injuries.
Make work assignments based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of the assignments, and the capability of subordinates.
Provide in-service education to OH staff and supported operational units, such as specific handling of injured employees, potential exposure to hazards, and emergency and disaster contingency planning for industrial accidents.
Use independent judgment in assessing the individual, relevant data in the medical record, industrial hygiene reports of the work site, and work site visits to determine if an illness is occupational or non-occupational related.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position. All applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- Must obtain and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification from the American Heart Association or Military Training Network.
- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one-year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
- This position requires moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 lbs.
- This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment.

Basic Requirement:
Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.
Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Education/ Experience: A diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program and possession of at least one year of professional nursing experience which includes: providing occupational health services, conducting nursing assessment, and providing education to patients or staff. This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field such as: Medical Science

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
