This position has been designated as an Essential Position (e.g., snow emergency days, holidays, increased security periods, national emergency). The position cannot be vacated during war or national emergency without seriously impairing the mission. Assignments may be performed at any job site within the organization.
Duties
Serves as full Deputy to the Police Chief of a Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) site, with an armed police force working 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Oversees police and security operations for the DLA site, including all tenant activities and/or military resident facilities.
Plans and directs the work of the Police Services Division or Branch. Develops short and long range planning of police and security operations.
Supervises the activities and operations of all shift law enforcement personnel with responsibility and authority on matters pertaining to shift activities and operations.
Enforces and maintains law and order to deter crime and other violations of law, regulation, policy, directive, or rule and to preserve and/or restore the peace.
Acts as first responder to all types of emergencies or volatile situations, including but not limited to terrorists attacks, hostage/barricade situations, bomb threats, vehicle accidents, robberies, alarm activations, etc.
Provides advice to subordinates on the application of laws, rules, procedures, and the constitutional rights of federal employees.
Establishes coordination and works with Federal, State and Local Municipal law enforcement on mutual areas of concern such as traffic control and, exchange of information.
Monitors and directs initial investigations of all incident/accident complaint reports, suspected sabotage, misconduct, civil disturbances or other illicit activities.
Adjusts personnel assignments to meet deadlines and special project assignments.
Through subordinate supervisors, briefs police officers on changes in policies, procedures, etc., to ensure they are aware of current policies and procedures.

- This is a Mission Essential (ME) position. The incumbent may be required to report to work in the event of a natural disaster, inclement weather, or crisis.
Qualifications
To qualify for a Supervisory Police Officer, your resume and supporting documentation must support:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To qualify at the GS-11 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-10 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes:
Coordinates major plans involving other Directorates/Offices on security issues; resolves problems concerning work relations, and integrates program objectives into total organizational programs.
Establishes coordination and works with Federal, State and local Municipal law enforcement on mutual areas of concern such as traffic control and exchange of information.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
