Duties

Duties will include, but may not be limited to the following: Provide assessment and management of ambulatory patients seen in the ED. Evaluate patients for emergency medical conditions, order the appropriate diagnostic students and perform a wide range of treatment procedures under the direction of the supervising physician. Perform necessary interventions based upon patient symptoms and established protocols and standards of care which will be part of the routine capabilities of the position Responsible in providing transportation of monitored and unmonitored patients to diagnostic procedures and/ or inpatient units. Monitor and obtain test results as soon as available and informs physicians promptly to facilitate patient care Provide assistance with medical emergencies on the facility grounds. Preferred Qualification: ICTs are advanced Health Technicians who have graduated from intensive specialized military medical training programs and served as combat medics, medical technicians, and corpsman. They possess fundamental knowledge, background and experience in emergency medicine, critical care, medical readiness, field medicine, bedside care, and primary care. Veterans, transitioning servicemembers, National Guard, and Reserve military Corpsmen, Combat Medics, and Medical Technicians interested in Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) positions. Examples of military occupational specialties highly desired, include but are not limited to: 4NOX- Basic Medical Technician, 4NOIC- Independent Duty Medical Technician, X4NO- Aeromedical Evacuation Technician, 1T2X1- Pararescueman, 68W- Combat Medic Specialist, 18D- Army Special Forces (Medic), 68WW1- Special Operations Flight Medic, HM0000- Basic Hospital Corpsman, HM8404- Field Medical Service Technician, HM8425- Surface Force Independent Duty Corpsman, HM8402- Submarine Force Independent Duty Corpsman, HM8401- Search and Rescue Medical Technician, HM8403- Fleet Marine Force Reconnaissance Independent Duty Corpsman, HM8406- Aerospace Medical Technician, and HS- Basic Health Services Technician. Work Schedule: This position may work rotating shifts, including holidays, and are subject to occasional recall to maintain adequate coverage of the Emergency Department and ambulance service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Mandatory overtime may be required due to run times that may extend beyond normal scheduled work hours. Condition of continued employment: Paramedic shall obtain certification as a National Registered Emergency Medical Technician (Paramedic) no later than (NLT) 18 months after employment as condition of continued employment with VA. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/15/2024. Individual Occupation Requirements for this position:Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: knowledge of topographic anatomy, patient examination, diagnostic signs (state of consciousness, reaction to pain, etc.), medication protocol, medicine techniques. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have . 1 full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement (completion of a Bachelor's Degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. with a GPA of 2.96 or higher OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond (Example: 50% specialized experience, and 50% (9 credits) of Graduate credits. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Clinical Data Collection/Documentation Emergency Care Patient Care Technical Competence Clinical Data Collection/Documentation Emergency Care Patient Care Technical Competence Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: Duties require regular and recurring physical exertion. Manual assistance in lifting and positioning patients, most of who are at various stages of unconsciousness is a regular occurrence. Extensive periods of regular and recurring standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing, reaching, and prolonged stretching to provide easy accessibility of instruments and supplies for the surgeon is required. The incumbent must be dexterous in passing instruments to surgeons without compromising principles of aseptic technique and in a manner requiring little or no effort from the surgeon, while also promoting safe handling practice, limiting potential for injury. Patient sometimes are positioned in a manner which may require the surgical technologist to work in a strained position for an extended period of time to perform duties. The incumbent must frequently wear 20-30 pound lead aprons as protection from radiation during various procedures during the performance of their regular duties.
