Duties
This position is located in the Nutrition and Communication Center (NCC) as the NCC Coordinator. The employee works with Nutrition and Food Service information systems and is responsible for maintaining the systems and resolving issues related to the N&FS systems as they arise throughout the medical center.
Major duties and responsibilities will include:
Coordinates and directs the daily operations of the NCC and nourishment areas
Uses standards, policies, procedures, diet manuals, modified menus, and production sheets to guide the work
Directs the work activities of employees, appraising performance, and promotes courteous and cooperative working relationships
Provides guidance pertaining to food service-related work assignments and ensures the quality and quantity of work performed
Controls usage of subsistence and supplies to promote cost-containment
Inspects work areas to assure high standards of sanitation
Ensures staff supervised receive and complete all necessary training
Resolves information technology issues related to integration of VISTA, Get Well Network/Touch Tone Dining and N&FS Systems
Oversees menu/recipe changes and all necessary updates in food service system (any commercial of-the-shelf (COTS) program)
Consults with clinical nutrition staff to resolve tray ticket issues with complex diets
Provides accurate and timely registry of menu items available to patients, food production and inventory team, clinical staff, etc.
Serves as a resource to ensure accurate interpretation of diet orders, identification of mistakes and ensures appropriate corrective action is taken
Handles patient problems and complaints related to N&FS as appropriate
Performs clinical functions to include interviewing new admissions to obtain patient history monitoring changes in weight, food intake, appearance, etc.; providing nutritional counseling maintaining dietetic reports; calculating and documenting patients' calorie and protein daily intake; and consults with Dietitian to recommend adjustments to patient diet plans
Participates in performance improvement activities by assisting in the development of indicators and monitors, data collection and analysis, corrective actions and preparation of reports
Ensures compliance with all regulatory agency standards, including state, federal and Joint Commission
Performing related duties as required.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm; Includes Weekends and Holiday rotations.

Supervisory Health Technician (Dietetic), GS-07 grade level:
Time-In-Grade Requirement:
Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must meet the time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
Specialized Experience:
Must have least one (1) year of specialized experience given with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities Knowledge: in Demonstrating supervision experience working in a healthcare environment responsible for maintaining and coordinating information systems and providing oversight of operations/activities within a food service/ dietetic department. Understands interrelationships between various computer systems and programs to ensure efficient and accurate operations. Demonstrates experience working in a clinical environment responsible for maintaining and coordinating information systems and assisting with the oversight of operations/activities within a food service/dietetic department. Note: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. ~OR~
Education. 1 full year of graduate education (or 18 semester hours) with a major that included courses directly related to the work of this position (i.e. nutrition, dietary therapy, food and nutrition science, food service systems management, etc.). Such graduate education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. NOTE: Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application materials. ~OR~
Combination:Applicants may have an equivalent combination of successfully completed graduate-level education and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total qualification requirements for this grade level. This education must have been obtained at an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. Note: Your experience must be documented in your resume and transcripts are required. You must have a combination of specialized experience to qualify.
Physical Requirements: Routine work requires repetitive motion activities of the hands and fingers for extensive phone, keyboard and computer mouse use, standing and sitting for extended periods of time, intermittent/non-strenuous ambulation around all areas of the medical center, and carrying light items such as papers, books, portable scales, and food trays. Occasionally, duties may require the movement of audio-visual equipment and/or classroom area organization and driving an automobile.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
