About the Position: This position will assist in the planning and managing of a comprehensive safety occupational health program to eliminate or control the risk of injury to personnel assigned to all phases of the safety and occupational health activities for Portland District's Navigation Division.

Duties

Enforce safety and occupational health principles, methods, and techniques which includes understanding OSHA requirements. Investigate mishaps involving personnel or damage to machinery, tools, materials, or equipment. Address any near misses, injuries, or accidents and brief the Operations Project Manager. Evaluate, procure, and distribute accident prevention material and provide training. Assist with the hearing conservation program, the respiratory protection program, fall protection program, and confined space program. Communicate with the District Diving Coordinator to discuss policy and safe work practices for diving operations. Perform administrative functions for the SOHO in such as timekeeping, travel, correspondence, and electronic records management.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. GS-11 Qualifications: Specialized Experience Qualified applicants for this position must describe in their resume at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the 09 level in federal service with applying federal safety standards applicable to industrial work processes, ensuring environmental compliance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations as well as performing site inspections and evaluating work practices to verify compliance and/or recommending changes. GS-11 Qualifications: Education Applicants may qualify at the GS-11 level with education by having completed a Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. OR by having a Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
