You will serve as a Supervisory Firefighter in the Fire Protection Division of NB CORONADO ALF SAN CLEM.

Duties

You will Use medical equipment (e.g., semi-automatic defibrillation device, cervical spine collars, back boards, hydraulic rescue tools) in providing emergency services. You will direct firefighters during structural, aircraft, and shipboard fire suppression and extinguishing. You will analyze hazardous materials response information from materials safety data sheets to determine a response action. You will monitor the operational readiness of fire protection systems. You will evaluate the work performance of junior firefighters or employees.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
  • Must be capable of standing, stooping, climbing, and walking.
  • Work area will normally be noisy on airfield, close quarters when working aboard ships, and climbing and hiking when working structural and wildland fires.
  • Position has been designated Key.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-8 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Provides immediate oversight and direction of day to day operations at a fire station for as assigned shift; 2) Prepares annual performance ratings and recommends personnel actions; 3) Conducts training activities to ensure all required training is completed; 4) Ensures personal health and safety programs are followed to prevent incidents. AND This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Fire Off II, Fire Inst 1, Fire Insp I, HAZMAT Incident Commander, Airport Fire Fighter, and National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT). If you do not possess 1 of the above certifications with the exception of the NREMT, you may obtain it within 1 year. If you do not provide verification of the listed certificates with your application, you will be rated ineligible.
