You will serve as a LEAD FIREFIGHTER (BLS/HAZMAT OPS) in the COMMAND NAVY REGION SOUTHWEST FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES of NB CORONADO ALF SAN CLEM. This location includes an Offshore Allowance of $10 per day in addition to the salary listed.

Duties

You will use medical equipment (e.g., semi-automatic defibrillation device, cervical spine collars, back boards, hydraulic rescue tools) in providing emergency services. You will instruct new firefighters on entry-level courses (e.g., Essentials of Firefighting in Fire Behavior, Portable Extinguishers, Self-Contained Breathing and Apparatus, or similar course). You will combat fire or rescue personnel onboard ships in a dangerous environment (e.g., small passages, small compartments, confined or unventilated areas, in the proximity of fuel tanks, gun mounts, or highly flammable or explosive cargo). You will direct the placement of firefighting equipment to ensure maximum utilization in fire control, aircraft crash, or rescue operations. You will establish a safe perimeter around a hazardous material incident to protect self and others.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • May be required to participate on Hazardous Materials Teams (HAZMAT).
  • Will travel to San Clemente Island on a weekly basis. Normally you will fly on Mondays and return on Fridays, depending on your work schedule.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federalservice or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Leading firefighters in firefighting and rescue operations; 2) Directing and participating in practice drills and/or training practice for assigned crew in all phases of firefighting techniques and equipment maintenance and use; 3) Inspecting tests, and/or correcting deficiencies on fire protection systems; 4) Performing basic life support and noninvasive emergency procedures to stabilize patients. This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications for this position: Firefighter I & II, Fire Officer I, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, Airport Firefighter, Driver-Operator for Pumper, Driver-Operator for Airport Rescue Firefighting, Driver-Operator for Aerial vehicles, Hazmat Operations, National Registry EMT - Basic Life Support (NREMT-B).
