About the Position: The mission of the Corpus Christi Army Depot is to overhaul, repair, modify, retrofit, test and modernize helicopters, engines and components for all services and foreign military customers. (CCAD) is the Army's Center of Industrial and Technical Excellence for Rotary Wing Aviation Maintenance.

Duties

Review final product welds that are free from cracks, slag or other defects to meet inspection. Assign subordinates to utilize templates, gigs and other guides to properly modify and fabricate metal items. Determine multiple arc welding methods to utilize in order to complete penetration and fusion of base and filler metals. Review the effect and reaction different types of welding processes and techniques have on various types of metals.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination.

  • This position is designated as moderate risk involving Public Trust Tier 2.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one-year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
  • Employee must obtain a Certified Welding Inspector certification within 24 months to be able to inspect welds on structures and piping throughout the industrial plant

Working Conditions- Work is done indoors, in areas of a shop having adequate lighting, ventilation and safety control. Involves exposure to fumes, infrared and ultraviolet radiation, heat, flying sparks, that glare of torches and heated materials. There is some discomfort when wearing protective clothing, gloves, and flash shield or eye goggles required to minimize the possibility of eye injury, electrical shock, burns, and chance of cuts when working with sharp edges on parts and components under repair. Working conditions have been considered in the evaluation of the position.
