Duties

As an Engineering Technician you will: Assemble, install, adjust, calibrate, modify and maintain equipment to meet requirements. Collaborate with laboratory and other staff members to assist in the identification of equipment needs, equipment characteristics, operating needs. Modify equipment and laboratory procedures to resolve operating problems. Comply with requirements to successfully complete the initial and yearly safety training instruction. Regularly and routinely inspect/review assigned workspace to identify and personally correct, Comply with all applicable federal and state safety and health regulations and established CDC/ATSDR safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-09 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level, which must include the following experience: working in a laboratory testing and operating equipment, observing and recording results, noting abnormal trends and results and modifying equipment and/or laboratory procedures. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes, instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated, etc. OR Have two full years of graduate education or a master's degree in a field directly related to the work of the position. OR Have a combination of education and specialized experience that together meets 100% of the qualification requirement for this position. To qualify at the GS-10 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level, which must include the following experience: providing technical expertise to laboratory and research functions through equipment modification, design, construction and/or operations of laboratory and/or medical equipment. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes, instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated, etc. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Promotion potential: Promotion to the next grade level is at management's discretion and is based on your meeting qualifications and time-in-grade requirements, demonstrated ability to perform the higher-level duties, the continuing need for the higher-level duties, and administrative approval. Promotion to the next grade level is not guaranteed and no promise of promotion is implied.

Education
