Duties
As an Engineering Technician (Mining) you will:
Assemble, install, adjust, calibrate, modify and maintain mining laboratory and equipment to meet operating requirements.
Conduct complete projects relating to mining testing and research by operating laboratory and medical equipment, observing and recording results.
Modify equipment and laboratory procedures to resolve operating problems and use equipment more effectively, improve the accuracy and reliability of results, or improve safety.
Collaborate with mining laboratory and other staff members to identify equipment needs, equipment characteristics, operating needs, and other information necessary to quantify equipment requirement to support current and future operations.
Research current equipment inventories to identify resource available, identifies gaps in inventories; and research manufacturer and supplier catalog's to identify and recommend equipment acquisition.
Ensure mine personnel researchers, and laboratorians are provided with sufficient materials and supplies to safely perform underground mining tasks.
Track and monitor equipment, chemical, inventory and mantenance history.
Maintain safe and efficent operations of the boiler plant and chilled water plant and properly inspect chemicals and perform testing.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify at the GS-9 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-8 grade level, which must include the following experience: in mine safety inspection and remediation and operation, troubleshooting, repair of mining equipment, machinery and knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents.
To qualify at the GS-8 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-7 grade level, which must include the following: experience in fabrication, installation, modification, and/or repair of engineering tools, structures, machinery, and precision instruments.
Documenting Experience: In accordance with Office of Personnel Management policy, federal employees are assumed to have gained experience by performing duties and responsibilities appropriate for their official series and grade level as described in their position description. Experience that would not normally be part of the employee's position is creditable, however, when documented by satisfactory evidence, such as a signed memorandum from the employee's supervisor or an SF-50 or SF-52 documenting an official detail or other official assignment. The documentation must indicate whether the duties were performed full time or, if part time, the percentage of times the other duties were performed. It is expected that this documentation is included in the employee's official personnel record. In order to receive credit for experience in your resume that is not within the official series and grade level of your official position, you must provide a copy of the appropriate documentation of such experience as indicated above.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
