Duties
Operates hydrographic survey vessel.
Performs computer related tasks such as equipment setup, networking equipment, data collection, data analysis, and processing.
Setup and maintains hydrographic and topographic equipment.
Provides on the job training to lower graded personnel.
Completes reports for vehicle/surveying equipment and prepares field notes for engineering analysis.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Position requires the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a First Aid and CPR certificate within 12 months of employment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Boat License within 2 years of employment.
- Position requires extensive travel up to approximately 75% of the time.
- Position requires successful completion of pre-employment and annual medical examinations.
- Must have the ability to transfer between shore point and vessels under potentially adverse conditions is required.
- A Personal Floatation Device (PFD) must be worn at all times while working on open floating plant decks.
- Environmental conditions at work locations may range from excessive heat and humidity to extreme cold and rain.
- Some locations require incumbent be able to maintain stable mobility in sandy, marshy and unstable terrain.
- Although some work is sedentary, work conditions such as ergonomic issues related to seating or video display terminals, repetitive motion injury from using computers, lifting and carrying more than 50 pounds may be expected.
- Position has been identified as a Testing Designated Position. Candidate selected for this position must pass a drug test before assignment to the position and once assigned, is subject to unannounced random drug testing.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Operating various types of land/surveying equipment such as levels, theodolites, single beam, multibeam, side scan sonar, and global positioning systems; 2) Performing surveying engineering computations, and coordinate calculations for use by survey team; and 3) Processing, evaluating, and editing electronic field data for entry into a computer-aided mapping design and analysis systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
