You will serve as a Shipwright Supervisor I in the Temporary Services Shop, Production Resources Department, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Kittery, Maine.
Duties
You will perform or oversee various woodworking operations in the Shipyard on all vessels, crafts and barges assigned to this Shipyard for construction, repair and overhaul.
You will plan sequence of operations for groups of employees supervised.
You will read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings and work orders and requisition tools, materials and equipment as needed.
You will perform or oversee set up and operation of woodworking machines such as, timber sizer, sawmills, cut off saws, band saws, ripsaws, table saws and drill presses.
Requirements

- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- Occasional overtime may be required.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to Lead or Supervise others in the Shipwright trade and perform the following work:
Perform woodworking operations in the Shipyard on all vessels, crafts, and barges, using expertise with lumber grades and specifications.
Monitor projects on vessels that are assigned for construction, repair or overhaul.
Train subordinates in work methods and procedures, proper use of tools and equipment.
Interpret blueprints and instructions in order to prepare layout patterns and sketches.
Plan division of workload based on capabilities of available manpower, materials and machines.
Inspect work to assure efficiency, economy, and safety operations.
