Incumbent supports VA, VHA and the Medical Center mission while meeting the needs of customers. Consistently communicates and treats customers (patients, visitors, volunteers, and all Medical Center staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner. Provides customers with consistent information based on established records management policies and procedures. Handles conflicts and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately.

Duties

This position is assigned to the office of the Chief Nurse Executive (CNE) at the Washington DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center (DC VAMC). The incumbent supports the Nursing Education & Research service in accomplishing the mission and goals of the medical center and nursing service. The incumbent provides program support functions of Nursing Education & Research under the direction of the service chief nurse and must have sufficient knowledge of the service to effectively support the management of the administrative requirements of Nursing Education & Research. The incumbent coordinates activities with other members of the nursing service support staff. These activities include but not limited to special activities, visitations, special programs, scheduling, organizing meetings/conferences, fiscal processes including budget and contracting, business functions, coordinating academic affiliations, trainee appointments, coordinating onboarding activities, timekeeping, supply management, education tracking/administrative functions, communications throughout the medical center, program analysis, and reports. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:30 pm Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/03/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education described below: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GS-06: Do you have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties the Program Support Assistant at the full performance level (GS-6), and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-5) in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: experience where you were responsible for providing administrative support; collecting, compiling and tracking data and information; processing documents and reports; establishing, updating and maintaining office files and records; performing automation duties using such software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, electronic mail, desktop publishing, calendar, database and/or graphics; answering telephones, referring visitors, and providing information. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GS-07: Do you have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties the Program Support Assistant at the full performance level (GS-7), and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-6) in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: Verifying of information in health care provider files; Maintaining confidentiality of information in accordance with the Privacy Act; Provides quality control checks on data; managing multiple projects and priorities and meets deadlines; using software applications such as word processing and data bases and internet database applications for data entry, file maintenance and data retrieval; and researching reference materials, regulations, and standards to identify appropriate action necessary to correct problems or issues. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items such as papers, books, and office supplies. Work Environment: The work is performed in an office setting within a medical facility. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
