You will serve as an ELECTRICIAN LEADER in the ELECTRICAL SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will relay supervisor's instructions to both nuclear and non-nuclear electricians in assigned work group. You will set the pace and instruct employees on proper work procedures, use of tools, and safety pertaining to shipboard electrical systems. You will verify work is done in accordance with accepted procedures and/or instructions. You will give appropriate skills training utilizing shop training tools such as mock ups, in shop work areas or facilities, and on deck-plates. You will ensure records and qualifications are maintained.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE: - Instructing various levels of electricians on proper work procedures and methods, use of tools, and safety pertaining to shop trade skills. - Directing crew members in the proper setting up of the shops' involvement in boat arrivals, boat dry docking requirements, undocking, and berthing requirements. - Verifying work progress and ensuring that the proper protective equipment is being used and safety practices are being followed by crew members. - Ensuring crew members follow the work sequences, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met. - Seeing that the necessary material, tools, blueprints, and any software and equipment is furnished and available to crew members to perform the work. - Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, and work orders.
