This position is located in the Service Center Operations Directorate. As an Immigration Services Assistant (OA), you will support the Adjudication Process by, providing front-end operational support through researching and analyzing data to ensure integrity of information while preparing reports, system updates and managing electronic and physical file movement.

Duties

The responsibilities described are for the full performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope performed with less independence, and limited complexity. Pre-screen various applications and submissions by USCIS customers for accuracy and completeness of initial supporting documentation and eligibility for benefits. Perform analysis on files, reports, and information systems and databases to update information and maintain data integrity. Accurately scan documents to include applications and correspondence. Maintain subject matter files, technical instructions, and operating procedures. Edit and create documents/correspondence using office automation software (graphics, databases, spreadsheets, word processing). Quality assurance of scanned items to ensure readability, completeness and verification of successful system upload. Perform data entry into USCIS systems. Serves as records liaison by managing case files for reference, processing file movement requests, and conducting file audits.

This announcement is issued under the Direct Hire Authority to recruit for positions for which the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, has a critical hiring need. Recruitment Incentive: A recruitment incentive may be authorized for newly appointed employees (i.e., individuals who have never been employed by the federal government or individuals who have had break in service of at least 90 days from their previous appointment as an employee of the Federal Government). Eligible applicants will be required to sign a one-year service agreement prior to receiving the incentive. GS-05: You qualify at the GS-05 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties: Performing complex office automation duties using word processing to edit and reformat correspondence and reports; Creating and maintaining spreadsheets and databases; Responding to inquiries by phone and/or in writing; OR You may substitute successful completion of 4 years above high school for the experience required at the GS-05 grade level. This education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester or 45 quarter hours. GS-06: You qualify at the GS-05 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties: Performing complex office automation duties requiring different methods/approaches for a variety of assignments; Reviewing and extracting relevant information from larger data sets; Providing routine requests for information, maintaining subject matter files, technical instructions, and/or operating procedures; GS-07: You qualify at the GS-06 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties: Preparing a variety of reports utilizing numerous software applications; Retrieving information from software systems (e.g., databases, spreadsheets, graphics, and word processing).t Gathers, organizes, and maintains information, determines its importance and accuracy and communicates in various ways with internal center/agency staff as well as external contacts. Volunteer work helps build criteria competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer service. Please provide the dates and amount of time/hours worked earning this experience.

EDUCATIONAL SUBSTITUTION: There is no educational substitution at the GS-06 and GS-07 grade levels.
