This position is located in Refugee, Asylum and International Operations, Asylum Division, Los Angeles Asylum Office. As a Supervisory CIS Assistant OA, you will supervise a staff of supervisors and employees responsible for reviewing applications and petitions for immigration benefits; prepare and issue written instructions and procedures on policies, special programs, and complex and non-routine assignments.

Duties

Provides technical and administrative supervision of the adjudicative support staff unit. Establishes unit objectives, goals, priorities, and deadlines and adjusts assignments based on changes to workloads, procedures, and organizational goals. Serves as a subject matter expert on all Asylum Division operational support functions. Makes recommendations for operational and qualitative improvements to the unit directed. Mentors, trains, and provides guidance to employees.

The qualifications for this position must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 01/19/2024. Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. The Time-in-Grade requirement must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 01/19/2024. GS-12: You qualify at the GS-12 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, which is equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the federal government, that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties: Screen applications and petitions for benefits under the Immigration and Nationality Act; Provide technical advice and assistance to others about immigration law and regulations; Make decisions and resolve problems in unusual situations requiring interpretation and application of policy; Establish long-range work plans and determine the actions necessary to accomplish these objectives; Devise new methods or procedures for accomplishing work to solve productivity issues; Provide advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters.
