The Recent Graduates program targets individuals who have graduated recently from qualifying educational institutions or programs. To be eligible, applicants must apply within 2 years of degree or certificate completion, except for veterans precluded from doing so due to their military service obligations, who will have up to 6 years after degree or certificate completion. Successful applicants will be placed in a dynamic, career development program.

Duties

Performs studies in order to develop or modify information systems to meet user requirements Provides technical advice to users, examines and evaluates alternative means of satisfying user requirements Independently prepares testing and implementation plans, establishing test criteria and data to ensure that all program modules and outputs are tested for completeness and accuracy. Performs in-depth analysis of automated systems to accomplish design and programming assignment. As a participant in the Recent Graduates Program, you will receive both formal and on-the-job training to develop the required knowledge and skill to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Who May Be Considered: Individuals who have obtained a qualifying Bachelor's, Master's, Professional, Doctorate, Vocational or Technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution, within the previous 2 years. Problem Solving- identifying or selecting from a number of alternatives to address routine information technology-related issues by gathering and applying information from standard sources that provide a limited number of solutions. In addition to meeting the basic requirement, qualified applicants must possess: One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required. For entry at the GG-7 grade level, applicants must minimally have: One year of qualifying experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of a GG-05 within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required. Qualifying experience is defined as: Manipulating programs to prepare charts and graphs to display information using programs such as word, excel and email AND IT-related experience demonstrating Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving as described in the vacancy announcement. For entry at the GG-9 grade level, applicants must minimally have: One year of qualifying experience equivalent to the GG-07 grade level in the federal service which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required. Qualifying experience is defined as: Manipulating programs to prepare charts and graphs to display information using programs such as Word, Excel and email; and preparing visual aids to display information using word, graphics, and desktop publishing to analyze IT programs efficiency; AND IT-related experience demonstrating Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving as described in the vacancy announcement. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE AT THE GS-07 LEVEL: One full year of graduate level education in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management; or superior academic achievement (SAA) with a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks, may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirement. Combination of education and experience is not applicable for this position.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE AT THE GS-09 LEVEL: Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. Combination of education and experience is not applicable for this position.
