About the Position: Serves as Health Technician in the Department Preventive Medicine, Winn Army Community Hospital, performing a variety of audiometric procedures to support wellness based Preventive Medicine and Primary care initiatives.

Duties
Identify anomalous ear canal shapes and recommend custom hearing protection.
Perform maintenance and trouble-shoot test equipment to ensure proper functioning.
Measure hearing protection devices attenuation levels on patients using the computerized fit check system.
Utilize automated systems to retrieve and enter patient information.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is covered by Health Affairs Policy 97006, 23 Oct 96, which requires the employee to obtain Hepatitis B Immunization unless exempted by a physician.
- Must obtain and maintain Certification in Hearing Conservation (or CAOHC certification equivalent for technicians) and for the DOEHRS-HC system within 90 days of employment.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) may be required up to 5% of the times.
- This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.

In order to qualify, you must meet the educational and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing Defense Occupational and Environmental Health System Hearing Conservation (DOEHRS-HC) computerized systems, in order to administer hearing tests; communicating orally and in writing for the purpose of relaying information to the audiologist staff and instructing patients; AND ability to calibrate, operate, and maintain audiometric instruments and equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Audiology Assistant, Hearing Instrument Specialist, or Audiology. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.).
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
