The incumbent is the supervisor for the Interior Design Team of the Environmental Management Service. In this capacity, the incumbent is responsible for the direction and supervision of the Interior Design Section which performs professional, technical and administrative interior design work associated with the planning and design activities at this highly complex multi-mission medical center and associating clinics.
Duties
Responsible as the supervisor for ensuring that the work assignments of two (2) other Interior Designers, of EMS, are carried out by performing a range of duties. Overall, the incumbent is responsible for two (2) full-time Interior Designers, two (2) Painters, and two (2) Maintenance Workers.
Distribute and balance the workload among employees in accordance with established work flow or job specialization, assure timely accomplishment of the assigned workload, and assure that each employee has enough work to keep busy.
Keep in touch with the status and progress of work, make day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities, and obtain assistance from the Chief, EMS, on problems that may arise, such as backlogs which cannot be disposed of promptly.
Keeps Chief of EMS, informed on expected time of work completion.
Maintains records of work accomplishments and time expended and prepare production reports as requested.
Instruct employees in specific tasks and job techniques and make available written instructions, reference materials, and supplies.
Give on-the-job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices.
Maintain current knowledge of interior design standards, procedures, policies, directives and answer questions of interior designers.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm
Compressed/Flexible: Must have the flexibility to work outside the normal tour of duty which may include weekends and holidays.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/26/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-11 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: performance of work concerned with the design and alteration of interior spaces to meet functional and aesthetic needs such as: Identifying, researching, and creatively solving problems pertaining to the function and quality of the interior environment.
Performing services relative to interior spaces, including programming, design analysis, space planning and aesthetics, using specialized knowledge of interior construction, building systems and components, building codes, equipment, materials, and furnishings.
Preparing drawings and documents relative to the design of interior spaces in order to enhance and protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public. Coordinating and integrating the mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering disciplines within the interior context.
Managing projects, developing cost estimates, evaluating bid proposals, reviewing construction documents, participating in on-site construction visits, conducting pre- and post-occupancy evaluations, developing standards for efficient space management, etc
OR
Basic Education: Undergraduate or graduate degree majoring in interior design or other related field that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in interior design, interior architecture, or interior environmental design; or passage of the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) examination.
