About the Position: This position supports the Joint Pathology Center Director, at the Joint Pathology Center in Silver Spring, MD. The incumbent will perform a wide range of office administrative functions. The work schedule is Monday-Friday, 0730-1630, in a cubicle setting.
Duties
Prepares routine and recurring reports, staff memoranda, information papers and logistical support to regular meetings.
Accession cases as required to include accurate assessing, sorting and daily data entry of case materials into the Joint Pathology Information Management System (JPIMS).
Prepares correspondence, memoranda, meeting minutes and reports from various systems.
Maintain transactional logs on spreadsheets, case files and records in support of productivity and regulatory compliance.
Receive and screen incoming calls and visitors.
Receive and review correspondence and reports for format, typographical accuracy, conformance with procedural instructions, proper assembly, appropriateness of references, and required background material.
Serves as section timekeeper demonstrating proficiency in timekeeping procedures and records retention.
Ensures personal compliance with department SOPs, recommends updates to department SOPs as needed and SOP.
Performance Improvement Meetings and assist with performance improvement projects.
Monitor and response to internal and external surveys.
Support development and maintain Director’s calendar and schedule .
Coordinator event planning with Director, such events as staff appreciation, awards, holiday parties, and organization photos.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- Qualified typist is required (40 wpm).

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing administrative duties within a clinic and/or hospital setting; utilizing medical terminology; utilizing automated healthcare systems, office automation software and receiving visitors telephonically and in person. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-6).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Proficiency Required:This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.
