About the Position: This position supports the Director for Administration, Case Accessioning at the Joint Pathology Center, Silver Spring, MD. Incumbent will perform a wide range of office administrative functions, provide anatomic pathology support and operate software systems to include queries, generation of reports in/from the Composite Health Care System (CHCS) and the CoPath sub function of the CHCS laboratory module which are critical to the mission of the Service.
Duties
Triage consultation request forms, accompanying forms and materials provided by submitting facility for correct submission.
Accession cases as required to include accurate assessing, sorting, and daily data entry of case materials into the Joint Pathology Information Management System (JPIMS).
Troubleshoot and correspond with submitting facilities regarding questionable and/or missing materials (i.e., tissue, blocks and/or slide samples, missing and/or incomplete consultation forms, etc.) needed for accurate record entry.
Maintain transactional logs on spreadsheets, case files, and records in support of productivity and regulatory compliance.
Receive visitors and public telephone inquiries relative to a broad range of subjects, evaluate requests, provide applicable or requested information, and/or refer inquiry to proper person for detailed answer.
Schedule conferences or meetings to include location setting and time as requested.
Receive and review correspondence and reports for format, typographical accuracy, conformance with procedural instructions, proper assembly, appropriateness of references, and required background material.
Prepare minutes for meetings or conferences.
Assign new cases accessioned to the appropriate sub-specialty pathologists.
Send, receive, and return external and internal consults/labs to the appropriate facilities and record in JPIMS.
Manage final case reports and return of material to submitting facility in a timely manner through use of fax and FedEx respectively.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3/Secret security investigation/clearance/access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position is eligible for situational telework, including emergency and OPM (Office of Personnel Management) prescribed 'unscheduled telework.'

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing administrative duties within a research facility and/or medical laboratory setting; utilizing medical terminology to transcribe physician notes into patients medical records; utilizing office automation software, automated healthcare systems and/or time and attendance systems to draft correspondence/memorandums, enter time and attendance, and/or enter and retrieve data; and receiving visitors both telephonically and in person within a laboratory. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Proficiency Required:This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
