The Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) links U.S. agriculture to the world, improves foreign market access for U.S. food and agricultural products, builds new markets, improves the competitive position of U.S. agriculture in the global marketplace, and provides food aid and technical assistance to foreign countries. This position is assigned full-time to USAID's Bureau for Resilience, Environment and Food Security/Center for Nutrition/Division for Nutrition Technical Services (REFS/CN/NTS).
Duties
The duties may include, but are not limited to:
Serves as an advisor providing expert technical backstopping and intellectual leadership for efforts to integrate nutrition considerations into Feed the Future (FTF) strategies and investments.
Provides expert leadership and promotes collaboration in global nutrition issues by keeping updated on current research/data and identifying and promoting best practices that contribute significantly to nutrition interventions across FTF programming.
Plans and schedules activities and coordinates program planning with relevant USAID and USDA staff and external partners.
Provide technical guidance and support, both virtually and through field visits, to REFS headquarters, and USAID field missions in designing, planning, and implementing nutrition considerations into agriculture and food security investments.
Provides substantial input to support, define, and address key analytics that inform strategic planning and project design in relevant food systems and nutrition programs.

- This position is a bargaining with American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), Local 3976.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement, including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
BASIC REQUIREMENT: Applicants must meet ONE of the following requirements:
Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in the fields of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. The educational program must have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics(external link) (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For dietitian positions, the curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND)(external link) (formerly American Dietetic Association(external link) (ADA) prior to January 1, 2012) in effect at the time of graduation.
Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by AND (formerly ADA) for dietitians or nutritionists.
Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).
TO QUALIFY AT THE GS-13 GRADE LEVEL: Applicants must have one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-12 level) that may have been obtained in the private or public (local, county, state, Federal) sectors which demonstrates:
Applying knowledge of nutrition concepts, principles, and methodologies to a humanitarian assistance and food security program.
Advising on the development and interpretation of nutrition and food assistance policies.
Collaborating/liaising with food, agriculture, and nutrition experts (both internal and external) to promote coordination and share best practices.
Contributing to program management tasks, such as planning and scheduling; review of budgets; identifying priority issues and objectives; reviewing program goals; and providing technical guidance and support.
Note: There is no education substitution for this grade level.
