This position is located at the Armed Forces Retirement Home-Washington in the Healthcare Services, Clinical Nutrition Office. The primary purpose of this position is to provide complete nutritional services for the Residents who live on the AFRH-W campus.

Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
Basic education requirement:
- Bachelors or graduate/higher level degree in the fields of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. The educational program must have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For dietitian positions, the curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA) prior to January 1, 2012) in effect at the time of graduation.
OR
Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by American Dietetic Association (formerly ADA) for dietitians or nutritionists.
OR
Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).
AND
Specialized experience includes:
- Directs specialized activities of the food service management administrative function in food quality control, food safety/sanitation, and dietetic services.
Examples:
Conducting nutritional assessments including dietary history and laboratory test for each patient to accurately assess metabolic needs OR;
Conducting nutritional education OR;
Developing or modifying teaching materials OR;
Ensuring provision of acceptable and nutritionally adequate meals for all residents with established budgetary and ration allowances.
OR
You may substitute education for general or specialized experience as follows: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.
OR
You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Only graduate level education in excess of the first 36 semester hours (54 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-11, you must have been at the GS-9 level for 52 weeks
Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a non-temporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.
The work involves long periods of moving about the work unit. Work requires regular and recurring standing, bending, lifting, stooping, stretching, lifting and repositioning Residents. Must use proper body mechanics when lifting objects and use lift equipment for Residents. The work may require considerable and strenuous physical exertion, such as lifting objects greater the 50 pounds or defending oneself against physical attack.
Education
Education Requirements: The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. If you are qualifying based on foreign education, you must submit proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency. Refer to the
