The EPA Office of Inspector General (OIG) is an independent office within the EPA that helps the agency protect the environment in a more efficient & cost effective manner. We perform audits, evaluations, & investigations of the EPA to promote economy, efficiency, and to prevent and detect fraud, waste and abuse. We strive to provide solutions to problems that ultimately result in making America a cleaner and healthier place.

Duties

This position is in the EPA Office of Inspector General (OIG) Office of Investigations (OI). OI criminal investigators investigate allegations of fraud, waste, abuse and misconduct impacting EPA programs and operations.  Investigations include procurement, grant and program fraud, cybercrime, employee integrity, laboratory fraud and scientific integrity, and national security threats against our nation’s water utilities.  

Requirements

  • Pre-employment drug testing is required and random testing thereafter.
  • Pre-employment physical is required and periodic physicals thereafter.
  • You must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Background Investigation Required.

Qualifications

All applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.   Qualifying specialized experience for this position includes the following:  (1) Works extensively with the Assistant Inspector General of Investigations and the Deputy Assistant Inspector General of Investigations to ensure that all cases, projects, actions, and priorities of the OIG are developed and accomplished in a timely, logical manner, and adheres to all legal and administrative guidelines; (2) Directs and manages a comprehensive financial fraud, program integrity, and employee misconduct investigative program to ensure the investigative priorities and mission of the organization are met; (3) Evaluates and ensures work meets quality standards; (4) Provide representation to internal and external stakeholders as a financial fraud, program integrity, and employee misconduct subject matter expert; and (5) Manages the planning and conduct of all criminal, civil, administrative investigations within the organization's area of responsibility.
