You will serve as a MARINE SURVEYOR in the LIFECYCLE MANAGEMENT DIVISION of MSC SHIP SUPPORT UNIT GUAM.
Duties
You will serve as a port engineer, supporting maintenance, overhaul, modification, and design for assigned ocean-going vessels powered by steam, gas turbine, and diesel propulsion.
You will manage work requirements and contract changes, review and evaluate ship-generated voyage repair requests, conduct ship checks, and determine feasibility of requests.
You will plan, develop and estimate work items as requested by the ship’s Principal Port Engineer in accordance with standard MSC operating procedures and applicable regulatory guidance.
You will plan and coordinate minor and emergency repair work in a cost-effective manner with minimal impact to ship mission requirements.
You will serve as a point of contact for assigned technical issues related to shipboard readiness and maintenance and repair during maintenance availabilities.
You will inspect for adequacy of work, provide on-the-spot technical advice and be responsible for supporting main assigned availabilities in commercial and government shipyards.

- This position may require travel to places within and outside the contiguous United States which could include remote or isolated sites. You may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- If eligible for permanent change of station, the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement to establish a Government time in service requirement of 12 months.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
- May be required to obtain a VISA dependent on the overseas country's laws/regulations.

Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience serving as port engineer for assigned ocean-going vessels powered by steam, gas, turbine and diesel propulsion to support the maintenance, overhaul, modification and design of systems for ships
Experience with MSC operating standards, procedures, plans, develops, and estimates work for shipboard maintenance, repair and alteration for assigned ships in all geographic areas
Experience with ship systems, machinery configurations and drawings for ship alterations
Experience serving as point of contact for technical issues related to shipboard readiness, maintenance and repair
Experience with regulatory body (ABS, USCG, SOLAS, etc.) requirements for ship design, maintenance and repair.

Basic Requirements
This series covers technical positions supervising, leading, or performing work involving surveying Government-owned and/or operated vessels, or privately-owned and operated merchant vessels, to determine their condition and the extent of work necessary for the vessels and their components to meet specified requirements. The work requires applying a practical knowledge of:
- preparing specifications, including estimates of labor and material costs, to cover work determined to be necessary as a result of surveys; and
- inspecting and accepting the work accomplished to place the vessel in the condition specified.
