You will serve as a MARINE SURVEYOR in the Engineering Department, Life Cycle Management Division of MSC SHIP SUPPORT UNIT GUAM.

Duties

You will serve as assistant port engineer for ocean-going vessels, including steam, gas, turbine and diesel, which include responsibilities for maintenance, overhaul, and modification of systems for ships assigned. You will review and evaluate ship generated voyage repair requests and regulatory body deficiencies. You will plan and schedule assigned work based on approved ship voyage repair requirements and operating schedule. You will assist the principal port engineer on issues related to shipboard readiness and maintenance and repair. You will conduct ship checks to verify assigned work requirements, troubleshoot systems, and analyze causes of casualties.

  • This position may require travel to places within and outside the contiguous United States which could include remote or isolated sites. You may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • If eligible for permanent change of station, the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement to establish a Government time in service requirement of 12 months.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
  • May be required to obtain a VISA dependent on the overseas country's laws/regulations.
  • You will be required to sign the Statement of Understanding for Overseas Employment acknowledging receipt and understanding of the statement of living and working conditions for this location.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

  • You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: experience in mechanical ship systems; performing wide range of shipboard main and auxiliary systems; reviewing plan and specifications for ship maintenance, repair and alteration on full range of ship systems; developing and revising shipboard operating instructions and guides for maintenance management and work items for ship repair and alteration.
