You will serve as a Sheet Metal Mechanic in the Production Trades Division of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST.
Duties
You will be responsible for manufacturing sheet metal parts, heat treat, welding, fabrication, planning, layout, and structural disassembly/assembly of aircraft parts and components.
You will work from technical drawings, directives, manuals, and other written or verbal instructions and assist equivalent and lower-graded level employees.
You will set up, operate, and program various Computerized Numerical Control cutting machines.
You will operate sheet metal manufacturing hand tools and conventional power equipment.
You will establish deadlines, priorities, and work sequences for sheet metal work projects.
You will use working knowledge of geometry, radial, parallel lines, trigonometry, and other shop mathematics to manufacture and design sheet metal and composite structures from aircraft parts and components.
You will comply with safety regulations, practices, and procedures.
You will accomplish other duties as assigned.

- Must be able to obtain and maintain all required certification for this job.
- Travel may be required for more than 50% of the time as part of normal duties.
- This position requires near vision correctable at 14" to Jaeger 2 and far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other. Must be able to distinguish colors and have depth perception.
- Tasks will be performed standing and sitting at a bench and walking. At times pulling, pushing, stooping and reaching are required with moderate kneeling, bending, and squatting for a period in excess of 6 hours.
- This position requires heavy lifting and carrying objects up to 40 pounds. Any weight lifted in excess of 40 pounds will not be attempted unaided.
- You will be subject to various noise levels which exceeds 85 DBA.
- This position requires the use of personal protective equipment that commensurate with assigned work tasks.
- Selectee(s) will be required to comply with health, safety and environmental instructions and policies as well as all agency policies and procedures.
Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position includes "ability to the work of the position without more than normal supervision" while performing common tasks such as coordinating metal repair, fabrication, laying out, assembling/dissembling of aircraft and aircraft components; Demonstrating working knowledge of the characteristics and properties of any metals used in the trade, e.g., stainless steel, magnesium, honeycomb; applying knowledge of all techniques used to assemble metal systems, and ability to recognize size bolts, screws, rivets, and all fasteners associated with aircraft trade; Utilizing wide variety of hand and power tools as well as precision measuring instruments and working to tolerances as close as .03 of an inch; Reading and interpreting blueprints, technical manuals, schematics of item to be repaired; devising templates/patterns into shapes (e.g. rectangular, cylindrical, tapered, etc.); and Employing developmental processes such as geometry, radial, parallel lines, trigonometry, and other shop mathematics to design parts.
