This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel in the DoD workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serve as a Maintenance Mechanic (MVO) Leader for Directorate of Public Works at Yakima Training Center, Washington.

Duties

Ensures plans, blueprints, material, and tools are available and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations. Reviews and interprets drawings, blueprints and manuals to determine facility/system layout and location of specific structures and fixtures and specifications. Makes preventive maintenance inspections to determine safety hazards, damage and repair requirements. Performs machining operation on damaged parts when new replacements are not readily available utilizing bench lathe, drill press, grinding wheel, and other common portable power and hand tools. Tests circuits and equipment by use of voltmeter, amp meter, wattmeter, meggers, ohmmeter, capacitor tests, and oscilloscope.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • TDY travel is occasionally required.
  • Employee is subject to emergency call back duty.
  • A satisfactory medical examination is required prior to assignment into the position and annually thereafter as the employee may be required to lift up to 50 lbs in the course of normal duties.
  • This is a Mission Essential Position.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain state and government driver’s license.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic (Motor Vehicle Operator) Leader ~ without more than normal supervision to perform common duties which include maintenance and repair work of buildings, structures, grounds, related fixtures and utilities. I can read and interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches, and work orders. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Work involves climbing ladders, poles, towers, or structures. Good hand and eye coordination is required. Repairs are made on equipment which may require maneuvering and may require lifting of items up to 50 pounds; occasionally handles heavier items. Frequent bending, stooping, and stretching is required, as well as working in hard-to-reach places and in awkward positions. Working Conditions: Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all types of weather. Incumbent is exposed to dust, dirt, grease, oils, and noisy conditions. Incumbent is subject to possible injury from vehicular accidents or hand and power tools used. Incumbent is subject to falls from heights, cuts, bruises, insect bites, and stings, scrapes, burns, infections, and broken bones. Incumbent is subject to strains and injuries from lifting. Subject to serious injury or death from electrical shocks and electrocution. Incumbent is subject to emergency call back duty. Uses safety equipment as required.

Education
