This position is located in the Division of Medical Services, Employee Health within the Phoenix Indian Medical Center located in Phoenix, Arizona. Incumbent serves as the Supervisor for the Employee Health (EH) nursing and clinical support staff and provides clinical oversight over occupational health services.

Duties

Serves as the Supervisory Nurse (SN), exercising specific responsibility to assure that care is provided incompliance with various regulatory and professional agencies including but not limited to, the Joint Commission, American Nurses Association, Occupational Safety and health Administration, Centers for Disease Control standards. This position supervises, directs, oversees and coordinates all aspects of the unit's nursing personnel, including RNs, health technicians, and medical support assistant. The SCN provides leadership, direction and technical expertise in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of delivery of nursing, provider, patient business and support services for the department. Provides routine immunization services to employees, and monitors immunization status of the hospital community and administers vaccines as needed. Coordinates employee Tuberculosis testing (PPD orQuantiferon) and screening, N95 Fit Testing and employee influenza vaccine clinic annually and COVID booster clinics. Coordinates and performs color blind testing for staff. Prior to employment/NEO enrollment, reviews all immunization records of potential employees, contractors, volunteers and students and communicates clearance to Staff Development. To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Note: Employees currently assigned to positions in this 0610 occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied. Education: A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements, OR Completed a degree from Foreign Nursing School and have an Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools. License: Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:GS-0610-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent with particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This specialized experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-11 in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. The following type of work and/or tasks include: Experience in providing clinical oversight over occupational health services. Providing routine immunization services to employees, reviewing immunization records of employees and potential employees ensuring staff is in compliance. Knowledge of nursing concepts, skills and principles necessary to provide professional services including; Assessment and therapeutic skills; teaching principles, pharmaceuticals including their desired effects and complications; medical equipment and skills necessary to use them; diagnostic procedures and tests including their interpretation and performance and counseling skills. Demonstrated management, administrative and supervisory skills necessary to effectively manage nursing services and to prioritize these services according to patient needs and outcomes. Ability to communicate verbally with individuals and groups from various educational economic, and cultural backgrounds. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: Certification as an Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) or Certified Occupational Health Nurse Specialist (COHN-S). (You must provide evidence of meeting this certification with your application documents) You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
