About the Position: Serves as an Environmental & Energy Security program manager in the Planning Division within the Command Engineer office at United States Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM), Miami, Florida.

Duties

Serves as an Environmental and Energy Security program manager in the Planning Division within the Command Engineer office at United States Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM). Provides in-depth monitoring and analysis of military environmental and energy issues, challenges and risk in the AOF, particularly as they relate to overall regional security. Responsible for advising the USSOUTHCOM Logistic Director and staff on policy issues regarding new or complex challenges related to interagency relationships, operations, and/or procedures as it relates to military environmental and energy security. Identifies, establishes, and maintains contact with appropriate civilian agency or military personnel in the area of military environmental and energy security. Review and validate activities planned in support Theater Campaign Plan.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • Duties may require working more than 40 hours per week with the potential for working weekends and/or holidays.

Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Environmental Specialist: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal Service which includes experience in environmental and energy security, experience in providing strategic guidance and giving expert advice to engineers and directors regarding current and future capabilities with the environment and energy conservation; experience in environmental and energy operations related to military operations; experience in serving as a staff advisor; experience in planning, organizing and chairing monthly working environmental and energy groups. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Environmental PlanningPlanning and EvaluatingWriting Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
