You will serve as a Supervisory Accountant within the Financial Management Division of the Office of Chief Financial Officer providing expert interpretation and application of Agency accounting policies; generally accepted accounting principles and other regulatory requirements; focal points for analysis and reporting; formulating strategies consistent with NASA's strategic plan and missions; and fosters an environment conducive to a high performing workforce.
Duties
Lead the development, analysis, finalization and submission of financial statements/reports such as the Agency Financial Report and Governmentwide Treasury Account Symbol (GTAS).
Apply accounting standards and practices, such as Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures to financial management and reporting.
Maintain and support the continuous improvement of agency processes or procedures related to financial management or reporting.
Directly supervise professional senior accountants in the formulation and development of policies, procedures, and guidelines for internal
accounting operations and external reporting.
Plans, develops, and implements accounting systems, policies, and practices to provide management control over the safeguarding of public
funds and property.
Influences the furthering of goals of equal employment opportunity and diversity by taking positive steps to support the accomplishment of

Defines work requirements and milestones; evaluates the organization and employee accomplishments by accepting or rejecting work products;

with existing resource levels and advises on the impact of efforts that require additional resources.
Perform a full range of supervisory duties which includes assigning and evaluating work; recommending personnel actions; taking disciplinary actions; and identifying training needs and developing employees.

Qualifications
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
To qualify for GS-15, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level:
Overseeing or managing a team, function, or project performing financial activities and providing technical oversight of financial management or accounting processes;
Developing and recommending revisions to existing or new internal controls, accounting, financial reporting, financial policies, processes, or procedures;
Evaluating financial reports to ensure compliance, accuracy, and resolve discrepancies.

Education
A. You must have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major in accounting; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. (The term "accounting" means "accounting and/or auditing")
OR
B. Have a combination of education and experience: Have at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge.
Your background must also include one of the following:
1. 24 semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law.
2. A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination; or
3. Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that (a) you have successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that you have demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; and (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, your education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements.
