About the Position: Responsible for supporting a wide variety of operations and facilities, including but not limited to: lock, dam and floating plant operations; dredging and breakwater repair; civil works construction projects; environmental remediation; and Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP) sites.
Duties
Serves as technical advisor to District Project Delivery Teams (PDT) for assigned projects to eliminate or control risk of injury to both government employees and contractors at project sites
Provides safety review of plans and specifications at various stages of project execution; reviews contractor safety submittals for completeness.
Conducts on-site quality assurance safety audits and inspections to enforce contractual safety requirements.
Supports the Industrial Hygiene (IH) Program through assessment and monitoring of workers to quantify potential occupational exposures to hazards like dusts, fumes, noise and environmental contaminants such as VOCs, lead, beryllium and radiation.
Reviews contractor laboratory data submissions.
Supports the Industrial Hygiene (IH) Program dealing with a variety of health and safety challenges such as, but not limited to: indoor air quality; evaluating and controlling environmental lead exposure.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This is a Career Program 12 (CP-12) Position and all ACTEDS requirements apply, to include, as a condition of employment employee must attain CP-12 Level I Certificate within 18 months of hire.
- This position requires a valid State motor vehicle operator's license prior to appointment and maintain the license for the duration of employment.
- This position requires a pre-employment fit for duty physical.

Specialized Experience: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service in or related to safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, which includes supporting a wide variety of high-risk operations and facilities, including but not limited to lock, dam and floating plant operations, dredging and breakwater repair, civil works construction projects, and environmental remediation. Conducts safety or occupational health program elements, developing, and recommending safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
