The incumbent serves as a Utility Systems Repairer-Operator located in Engineering Service for the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System, in Las Vegas, NV. The primary purpose of this position is for the safe operation of the Energy Plants Industrial equipment and the monitoring of the VAMC's Building Automation System.

Duties

The Utility Systems Repairer/Operator (USRO) is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of the Energy Plants Industrial Systems to include Steam Boilers and Centrifugal chillers. Responsible for all ancillary equipment associated with these systems to include pumps, cooling towers, chemical treatment systems, boilers and chiller control devices, air handlers, Dearating (DA) feed systems, Industrial and Domestic water quality testing and systems, Diesel Generators and Boiler Emergency Fuel Systems, weekly, monthly and annual maintenance, safety device testing, proper record keeping, personal training requirements, and all other requirements for maintaining the VA Medical Centers Engineering Department commitment to excellence with the use of great customer service, engineering operational duties, infectious control, and maintenance. Responsible for communicating all situations with Supervisors, Head Nurse on Duty (NOD) and all maintenance personnel. This position requires a strong ability to log incidents or situations that may need reviewing and the ability to direct and consult request from hospital personnel in a professional manner. Will utilize great customer service, Operations of Industrial Equipment's, keeping work areas and surrounding areas clean of any hazards by using infectious control policies and regulations accomplishing maintenance duties on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis. Incumbent will interact with VAMC employees, guests, patients, and visitors by answering phone calls or radio requests for adjustments of room comfort temperatures, maintenance issues such as water leaks, electrical, mechanical, HVAC systems, temporary supporting systems such as medical tents, generators, lighting systems, and communicating any and all issues with the appropriate department or personnel in the mitigation of issues that negatively affects the VA Medical Center. Will have the responsibilities of operating the boiler plant and chill water plant by starting and stopping equipment based on necessary load demands that fluctuates. Ability to work on and maintain pumping systems to include fuel oil, domestic water, filtered water, boiler feed pumps, chill water pumps, condenser water pumps, and condensate pumps. Must utilize communication skills with vendors, immediate supervisors, co-workers in other disciplines to ensure any diagnosing of Industrial equipment issues are resolved safely, correctly, and economically feasible for the VA Medical Center. Other duties as required. Work Schedule: Mon - Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm Position Description Title/PD#: Utility Systems Repairer-Opera/PD02168A Physical Requirements: Frequently works in confined areas inside and around boilers and support equipment, i.e., auxiliary equipment's, pumps, motors, fans, cooling towers, air handlers, roof, crawl spaces, ladders, lifts, and ceilings. Work requires moderate physical effort and long periods of walking, standing, climbing, bending, and crouching. Frequently lifts and carries boiler parts and chemical supplies weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted and occasionally items weighing over 40 pounds with the assistance of other workers or weight handling equipment.
