Duties
You will serve as a journey level sheet metal mechanic and develops patterns, plans, lays out, cuts, forms, joins, assembles, and installs items such as, heating, air conditioning, and ventilating systems.
You will construct difficult plans and lay outs because of the number of irregular angles, planes, and curves.
You will use templates and patterns to shape, construct, and assemble objects with combined shapes such as, rectangular, cylindrical, tapered, combining the least number of seams and amount(s) of metal.
You will use shop tools and equipment, such as, hand or powered crimping, burring, turning, and beading machines and soldering and welding equipment.

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
Qualifications
This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: THE ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION. Your resume must show that you have the ability to perform common tasks including:
1) Performing layout, fabrication, assembly, repair, and installation of a variety of sheet metal items, such as ducts, flashing, safety guards, sink tops, drain boards, and components and parts for air conditioning, heating, and ventilating systems;
2) Using mathematics to calculate irregular angles, curves, and pitch;
3) Fabricating sheet metal items having combined straight and curved edges or irregular curves and planes;
4) Interpreting and complying with technical publications related to the Sheet Metal Mechanic Trade; and
5) Using a variety of hand, power, measuring and layout tools to perform work on sheet metal.
