This position is located under the Division of Financial Services, Patient Business in the Benefits Coordinator Section at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center, AZ. The primary purpose of this position is to function as the Lead Health Benefits Coordinator, assuring the identification of patients who are eligible for alternate resources. As a Lead, the incumbent provides support and technical assistance to the other Benefit Coordinators and Business Representatives.
Duties
Gives on-the-job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices. Creates and maintains on-going changes on written processes.
Distributes and balances the workload among employees in accordance with established work flow or job specialization, assures timely accomplishment of the assigned workload, and assures that each employee has enough work to keep busy.
Assures maximal identification of persons who have, or are eligible for alternate resources, by implementing screening in and interviewing methods effectively.
Verifies eligibility of patients by contacting the nearest SSA or Department of Social Services (DSS) Office, or State Medical Assistance Office.
Maintains a tracking system of pending applications for various Medicare or Medicaid programs to ensure the enrollment of patient to said programs.
Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS,GS-0962-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-08 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Work experience advising patients of nonpayment or approval of claim; compile and write reports; contact alternate resources to explore reasons for adverse decision, the possibility of reconsideration, whether there are grounds for appeal; complete contacts independently including review of complex records, reconstruction of involved transactions, analysis of precedent decisions.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
