Duties

This position is located under the Office of Science and Technology Forensic Science Laboratory in Beltsville, Maryland.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this position.

  • You must satisfactorily complete a drug test prior to being hired.
  • You will be required to obtain a Top Secret Clearance.
  • You must sign a mobility statement and agree to be relocated at any time to any office in the United States, to include U.S. territories. All candidates will be required to perform a minimum of 3-5 years at their initial duty station.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications: You must submit transcripts to verify that you meet the basic education requirements. You must show you have successfully completed a bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR A combination of education and experience -courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to the basic qualifications above, to qualify for the GS-14, candidates must also have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS -13. Performing such duties as: Performing DNA examinations on the most difficult evidence without technical guidance; and Interpreting, evaluating and analyzing the results of a variety of samples, including complex mixtures. Using laboratory policies, regulations, standard approaches, and methods to perform expert forensic DNA examinations. Evaluating new technology and developing or modifying analytical procedures to improve forensic DNA analysis. Specialized experience is demonstrated experience, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Experience must be in the normal line of progression or must be related to the work of the position advertised and must be reflected in resume.
