THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a FIREFIGHTER (BASIC LIFE SUPPORT) (TITLE 5), Position Description Number T6314000 and is part of the NC ANG, National Guard (145th ALW / MD 0108297634).

Duties

As a FIREFIGHTER (Basic Life Support), GS-0081-07, you will provide fire protection, rescue operations, hazardous material response, and confined space rescue, for facilities with a variety of hazardous conditions as a crew member; drive and operate firefighting vehicles, such as pumpers, aerial ladder trucks, or Airport Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) vehicles; respond to alarms and fires which may involve crashed and burning aircraft, equipment, structure and facility fires, fuel, chemical, or brush fires; critical perform rescue of personnel and a variety of first aid measures to alleviate further injury and prepare the victim(s) for transport to a medical facility; Airway Obstruction and Respiratory Arrest; Cardiac Arrest; Mechanical Breathing Aids; Bleeding and Shock; Wounds; Fractures of Torso and Extremities; Head, Face, Neck, and Spine injuries; Eye, Chest, Abdomen, and Genitalia; Child Birth; Miscellaneous Medical Emergencies; Environmental Emergencies; assist patients in taking emergency medications for certain complaints; e.g., Nitroglycerin tablets for chest pain, Epinephrine auto-injections for allergic reactions, or Albuterol inhalers for asthma patients, under the direction of standing orders or of a physician; assist intermediate life support or paramedic staff; prepare appropriate and relevant patient care documentation and reports to ensure medical requirements are met and accurately reported.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: To qualify for this position, your resume must reflect sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the position for which you are applying. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: (Must possess at least one year of specialized experience or equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-06), in the Federal service in the normal line of progression for the occupation. . Experience that demonstrated the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position. Such duties may include (1) controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; (2) rescue operations; (3) detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards; (4) operation of fire communications equipment; (5) controlling hazardous materials incidents and/or (6) developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention.1 year equivalent to at least next lower grade level* Certifications: Must be certified by the DoD Firefighter Certification system as Airport Firefighter (includes Firefighter I, II), Hazmat Operations (includes Hazmat Awareness), Apparatus Driver Operator- Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting, Apparatus Driver Operator- Pumper, Apparatus Driver Operator- Aerial*, Apparatus Driver Operator- Mobile Water Supply (MWS)*. (asterisk means optional) Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06 Level. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Mandatory Required Mandatory Required Experience: 1. 3-5 years experience operating in a combination department with Title 5, Air National Guard and State of North Carolina employees. 2. Experience operating at a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) controlled Index E airport with Air Force, Army, Commercial Carrier, private aviation, and corporately owned aircraft. 3. Experience operating in Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge required areas under the supervision of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). 4. Familiarity with the Mutual Aid Fire Emergency Services with a civilian department. 5. 3-5 years Firefighter (Basic Life Support) experience to include Geographically Separated Unit (GSU) which provides certification training to all Air National Guard firefighters. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
