This position is located in the Law Enforcement and Investigations and serves as technical advisor in the Washington Operations, Assistant Director for Training/Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC). Incumbent is responsible for the maintenance, operation, and training related to complex and sophisticated firearms, firearm systems and related equipment.

Duties
Advise on the maintenance, operation, and training related firearms, firearm systems and related equipment.
Identify firearms, firearm related parts, and equipment that are no longer suitable for use.
Ensure firearms and firearm parts are ordered.
Research and establish logistics support requirements for equipment and law enforcement gear (such as ballistic protective vests, holsters, duty gear, etc.).
Perform maintenance and repairs on firearms and weaponry.
Request quotes from manufacturers and/or vendors to identify the most cost appropriate supplier.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.

- This position requires initial and continuing qualifications in the use of firearms as outlined in the Gun Control Act of 1968, amended by the Lautenberg Amendment of 1996.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS-11: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as the majority of the following: performing property and equipment management for law enforcement training center; and/or troubleshooting malfunctions of weapon operations; and/or managing the issuance, receipt, maintenance, storage and repair of law enforcement equipment; and/or ensuring contract compliance with the acquisition of firearms, firearms parts, tactical gear and equipment; and/or conducts inventories ensuring serviceability and accountability of firearms and other law enforcement equipment.
OR
Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., in criminal justice, law enforcement, fire science, firearms technology, mechanical engineering, security studies or a related field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
