This position is part of the Security Services, Government Publishing Office in Washington, District of Columbia.

Duties

Access the facts and makes decision, issuing instructions during emergencies Makes decision on the number of officers to be dispatched, initiate coordination with emergency response team. Exercise authority to detain and arrest for violations, misdemeanors, felonies, etc. Conducting interior and exterior foot patrols, conducts vehicle patrols of jurisdictional boundary. Provide field training to new officer concerning GPO Directives, Operating procedures and general police duties and responsibilities Conduct Random Anti-terrorism Measures (RAM) to enhance security posture. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Selectee may be required to serve a one year probationary period
  • Selectee must be able to obtain and maintain Secret security clearance.
  • Applicant will be subject to a T3 background investigation (Secret Clearance) and must be able to obtain and maintain access/eligibility to classified information.
  • Incumbent must have and maintain a valid state or District of Columbia Drivers License.
  • Applicant must be 21 years of age.
  • The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. *Please See Additional Information Section
  • Selectee will be required to successfully complete the Uniformed Police Training Program at Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. *Please see additional information section.
  • This position authorizes the incumbent to carry a firearm and it is mandatory for officers to carry and maintain bi-annual proficiency with the firearm.
  • Selectee must pass the Uniformed Police Branch Field Officer Training Program.
  • Applicant will be required to take and pass a physical fitness test (PFT) annually.
  • Applicant must pass a job sanctioned and validated psychological examination.
  • Successfully completion of the DC Code Training Program is required and must be completed according to the standards of the agency within 1 year of employment. Failure to do so will be grounds for mandatory removal from position.
  • Position is considered mission essential.

Qualifications

To qualify for the Police Officer, PQ -0083-4, you must meet the following requirements: To minimally qualify for the PQ-04 level, you must meet the following requirements as specified in 'A' or 'B': A. Applicants must possess at least 6 months of general experience which may include: Experience in administrative, clerical, technical, or military work that involved protecting property, equipment, data, or materials; or that involved making judgments based on the application of directions, rules, regulations, or laws. OR Applicants must also possess at least 6 months specialized experience. Specialized experience is: experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience: may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skill. OR B. Applicants must have successfully completed two (2) years of study at an accredited school above the high school level with at least 12 semester hours in police administration, police law and evidence, police investigation, criminology, law enforcement, general law, or similar subjects closely related to police work. Note: Applicant must submit a school transcripts- official or unofficial - at time of application. The information in the transcript must be verifiable; at the minimum, the transcript should contain the name of the institution, applicant's name, list of completed courses, semester hours, and GPA. NOTE: Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation. Selectee will be required to successfully complete the Uniformed Police Training Program at FLETC. Employee must complete a three-year service agreement. This training must be successfully completed according to the standards of the agency within one year of employment. Failure to do so will be grounds for mandatory removal from the position. Such failure will result in separation by appropriate procedures. If employee separates from the police position, employee must pay back to the agency, Training Costs. Costs will be prorated based upon the time short of three years subsequent to successfully completing the Uniformed Police Training Program at FLETC. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement(09/19/2024) to be considered.

Education

Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may be used for this grade level.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
