Program Support Assistant is located at Audie L. Murphy VA hospital and supports multiple sites within the South Texas Veterans Health Care System. Incumbent reports to the Chief, Assistant Chief, Logistics Service, and South Texas Veterans Health Care System employees by performing a variety of tasks in support of the efficient management of the service. Supports the day-to-day operations and performs a variety of office support tasks, supporting the Service.
Duties
Major Duties:
Receives and screens telephone calls for the Chief and Assistant Chiefs within Logistics Service.
Maintains the Chief and Assistant Chief calendars. Reminds him or her of appointments and schedules, cancels and reschedules appointments.
Receives incoming mail. Opens, reviews, and routes mail to the appropriate individuals or sections within Logistics Service.
Assembles and attaches all background material from files for supervisory information prior to his or her signing any correspondence.
Incumbent takes minutes from Logistics Service Staff meetings, as well as meetings that the Chief and Assistant Chief chair as required.
Incumbent is responsible for using the automated office equipment, which consists of a word processor, computer terminal, computer keyboard.
Conducts timekeeping reports and audits to verify compliance with payroll policies and regs. Creates and maintains time and attendance for each employee within the service.
Record Liaison and maintains an accurate inventory of records created and stored by the program and service.
Maintains the time and attendance cards for the Office of the Chief, Inventory Management, Storage and Distribution Sections, Kerrville Division.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM

Qualifications

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: operating computers and typewriters via word, excel, and other relevant programs to accomplish the mission; using correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation formats is required to take and transcribe dictation in both oral format and via tape or voice recorders; AND storing and retrieving electronic files, activate printer(s), insert and delete text, print standardized paragraphs from a glossary, produce letters and memorandums, enter data into predefined spreadsheets or databases, retrieve data from specified electronic records, and transmit and receive electronic mail.OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 4 years above high school. OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond 4 years above high school.

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Some work may require movement between offices, hospitals, warehouses, and similar areas for meetings and to conduct work. Work may also require walking/standing, in conjunctions with travel to and attendance at meetings and/or conferences away from the work site. Incumbent may carry and lift light items weighing less than 15 pounds.
