You will serve as a Maintenance Mechanic with the Facilities Management Service for the Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center located in Spokane, Washington. DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY: This position is being filled using Direct-Hire Authority (5 CFR 337.201) for this occupation.

Duties

Conduct maintenance and operations of equipment repair duties that encompass the installation, maintenance, repair, and inspection of all varieties of industrial plant machinery, pipefitting, plumbing, kitchen equipment, medical gas piping systems, associated piping distribution systems, general mechanical equipment and associated mechanical systems throughout the Spokane VAMC Main Campus. Perform snow removal using snowplows, deicer's, gators, mechanical sweepers, and brooms. Perform grounds maintenance. Conduct hourly equipment checks and completing preventative maintenance on Chiller Plant equipment. Troubleshoot, repair, reconfigure pumps and valves to maintain proper chill water operations. Install, maintain, and repair of all water, medical gas and vacuum systems, non-medical sterilization equipment, kitchen equipment, water-based fire protection systems, domestic water chlorinating systems, water softeners and gas systems and their associated piping distribution systems. Repair and maintain high temperature water and high- pressure piping systems such as steam, hydraulic, compressed air, nitrogen, and oxygen supply lines. Repair walls, doors, ceilings, floors, windows, tables, plumbing, locks, lighting, urinals, faucets, toilets, sinks, water chlorination and HVAC equipment. Install floor and ceiling tiles, door frames, walls, gauges, and plastic laminate surfaces. Perform Preventive Maintenance (PM) inspections as indicated on PM printouts and complete assigned work orders utilizing appropriate equipment. Construct necessary dust barriers and or block off areas as needed. Able to interpret Blueprints and Mechanical drawings. Follows all safety procedures in the performance of job duties. Observe and enforce local, state, and federal OSHA and D.O.T. safety rules and regulations. Follows safe work behaviors, and promptly corrects conditions and unsafe behaviors which may lead to accidents. Possess and maintain a driver's license. Perform other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Compressed Work Schedule, Monday- Friday, 12:00 PM- 12:00 AM PDT. Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Mechanic/PD70548A Physical Requirements: The work requires intermittent lifting of large articles or assemblies, climbing on ladders or scaffolding, and then maintain body balance while working there, reaching, and working on overhead items. Stands, stoops, bends, kneels, climbs, and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weighs up to 40 pounds. Repair pumps and motors. Drive snowplow equipment. Operate lawn care equipment. Work Conditions: The work constantly subject to any one of a variety of hazards such as eye and hand injury from the use of power machines, dust, dirt and noise from various powered machinery, physical injury from lifting and holding heavy pieces of equipment, and danger of falling from ladders and scaffolding or hand cuts and contusions from working with edged tools and blunt instruments. Is frequently exposed to the possibility of scrapes, burns, and infections. Incumbent is subject to extremes of heat and cold in work performed inside or outside the buildings. The incumbent will be required to work in close, hot, dusty, dirty, cold, and confined environments. Will be exposed to a wide variety of electric and air operated equipment used in the maintenance field. The incumbent is responsible to be safety conscious, to be alert to hazardous conditions, use proper safety equipment in the performance of duties, and must be alert to hazardous conditions and take all necessary action to avoid accidents. If such cannot be done, incumbent must learn to work safety under hazardous conditions, avoiding personal unsafe acts, and to be especially watchful of the unsafe practices of fellow employees for mutual safety protection of self and others. Must possess and maintain a driver's license.
